Tipton and Great Bridge neighbourhood teams are highlighting two specific risks associated with the Valentine’s season: Romance Fraud and Targeted Theft.

1. Romance Fraud Warning

Fraudsters often ramp up their activity in the weeks leading up to Valentine's Day. They create fake profiles on dating apps and social media to manipulate residents into sending money.

The Tactic: They often claim to be working abroad (e.g., military or medical) and eventually ask for money to cover a "crisis," travel costs, or medical bills.

The Advice: Never send money to someone you have only met online. Use the Action Fraud reporting tool if you suspect a scam.

2. Personal Safety & Theft in Retail Hubs

With more people visiting Great Bridge Retail Park and Tipton High Street to buy gifts, opportunist thieves like pickpockets and "purse dippers" are more active.

Keep Gifts Secure: If you are shopping for jewellery or high-value items, do not leave them visible in your car. Use the boot and ensure the vehicle is locked.

Bag Safety: Busy card shops and florists are prime spots for thieves. Keep your bag zipped and tucked under your arm.

3. Home Security for Date Nights

If you are planning a night out, ensure your home doesn't look empty.

Light Timers: Use timers or smart bulbs to make it appear someone is home.

Social Media: Avoid posting "check-ins" at restaurants in real-time, as this alerts burglars that your property is currently vacant.
